Each History Odyssey study guide includes the necessary hand-outs and black line maps.
History Odyssey brings to life the story of mankind through a comprehensive study of the literature, historical events, and geography of the time period. Each study guide is intended to lead the instructor and student through a year-long study of the Ancients, the Middle Ages, Early Modern, or Modern time periods. They provide the framework and structure for using and organizing many of the best resources available for history and literature. The study guides include easy-to-follow lessons that present history chronologically and include reading and writing assignments, map work, and activities. Each level of History Odyssey progresses gently, preparing the student for more complicated reading and writing.
Level one History Odyssey guides are generally written for 1st through 4th grade students. (Modern Times, level one is recommended for grades 3 through 6. It is a more difficult course and bridges the gap between level one and level two courses.) Level one guides coordinate resources that are full of engaging activities and that tell history as an exciting story. Level one guides utilize many activities that provide a hands-on experience of history including craft projects, art projects, cooking, and coloring. Age-appropriate reading books are gradually introduced and prepare the student for classic literature in level two programs.
Level two History Odyssey guides are generally written for grades 5 and up. (Early Modern, level two is recommended for grade 6 and up. Modern Times, level two is recommended for grade 7 and up. These two courses include more difficult writing assignments and literary analysis.) Although generally written for middle school-age children many customers have very successfully utilized level two courses for high school. In level two guides students learn information organization, literary analysis, research skills, and writing skills through reading some of the greatest historical literature for each time period. Level two guides teach outlining, timeline analysis, geography, and critical thinking through daily lessons that are written for students to use independently.
Level three History Odyssey guides, written for grade 9 and up, present original writings and classic works by such masters as Plato, Homer, and Shakespeare. The lessons guide students in tackling rewarding literature, writing persuasive arguments, forming a thesis, and creating research papers. Level three study guides contain numerous writing and research assignments and prepare students for college entrance.

History Odyssey study guides are written based on three principles:
- History is fun when it is presented as a story.
- History is best studied through the reading of great books.
- History is best taught through a world view with an opportunity to learn about different cultures.
The guides eliminate guesswork by coordinating resources and lesson planning. Our goal is to make history one of your student's favorite subjects.
